Won 38-0

Greenwich has started to convert performances into results with a resounding win over a very talented Bandits side. In the autumn sun, fly half Ricky Cook kicked things off and straight away Greenwich applied constant pressure to keep their opponents on the back foot.

The back row of Jack Pearce, Ryan Dixon and Ray Collins continually managed to pressure the break down to shut down the Bandit’s options resulting in them kicking for territory for a majority of the game. Despite some long range penalty and drop goal attempts- the Greenwich defence stood strong and rarely looked like conceding a try; even after losing #8 Ryan Dixon to a yellow card due to persistent infringements.

In fact, due to some handling errors and decision making in contact- the 1st half threaten to remain scoreless until a few minutes from time, after some good phase play by the Greenwich forwards, scrum half Craig Hohaia moved the ball to the backs and Ricky Cook managed to power through to score under the posts. He then duly added the extras.

After wearing down the visitors in the first half, Greenwich started to move up through the gears with strong running and pack play, particularly prop Jordan Maloney- whose hard work paid off with a try.

Tries from Gurj Singh and flanker Ray Collins were followed by a try by Gavin Grant to mark an impressive debut for the club which moved the game beyond the Bandits reach. The game was capped off with a bizarre try from Craig Hohaia who was the only one to respond to a loose ball to score under the posts unopposed.

With the pre-season finished with, Greenwich now look to start the new league season with a home game against last season’s champions Bromley next week.
